Whatever you came to the church for initially won't be there, but Hakon will want the GRE key. Once you arrive at the church Hakon will come out. This can either come from Frank during the Nightrunners quest, or Juan will give you a side quest to find an informant, making this encounter actually optional. The Mother infects you with the serum but doesn’t kill you in the process. You stay true to your mission and fight The Mother. I mean, how would you even survive a nuclear explosion, right? Fighting The Mother (Canon Ending) Even if it was canon, Kyle would undoubtedly end up dead. Obviously, this ending ends with Kyle Crane dead. This will contain the virus within Harran and prevent the outbreak from ever happening. Putting in the code will launch the nuke, killing presumably everyone in Harran, including Kyle and The Mother. At the end of Dying Light: The Following, if you decide to nuke Harran, you will be taken to a room with a nuclear setup. The Nuclear Ending is the non-canon ending. Dying Light 2 takes place 15 years after Dying Light: The Following, which means that controlling the outbreak didn’t work. We aren’t given that much background for Kyle Crane.
